Starting from the Recreation Ground in Sturminster Newton this out-and-back 2 hour tour takes the paddler upstream as far as Cutt Mill at Hinton St Mary (approx. 3.5 miles in total).

There are various points of interest including the author Thomas Hardy's house where he penned the novel ‘Return Of The Native'; Colber Bridge, a 100 year old iron footbridge with historical links to an Iron Age settlement; the disused Somerset and Dorset railway which crossed the river en route from Sturminster Newton to Blandford and then continued on to Bath.
