Three weeks of archaeology at Shorne Woods Country Park, near Gravesend, Kent.

Visit our medieval manor dig, meet the archaeologists and take a free guided tour. Handle finds from the dig and see experimental archaeology take place.

Join us for a weekend of medieval re-enactment on July 26 and 27.

About this location

Shorne Woods is a SSSI Kent County Council country park. For the past six years it has hosted an ongoing archaeology Show more… project. This has sought to understand the history and archaeology of the Park. The medieval site of Randall Manor sits within the park and has been the subject of a community archaeology excavation, now in its seventh year. The project has also investigated prehistoric mesolithic flint sites and world war two bases built in the Park. Archaeology volunteers work year round in conjunction with Kent County Council's community archaeologist, to better understand, conserve and interpret the Park's past.Show less…
