Cost

The cost for house tours is £8.00, children and concessions £5.00, HHA members free and the same for garden tours. Afternoon tea and refreshments are available at an additional charge.

About this location

Ashridge House is a neo-Gothic grade I listed building built in the early 19th century on the site of a monastery which Show more… was founded on the back of the Crusades and was subsequently owned by King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The gardens were originally designed by Humphry Repton in the early 19th century and are considered his finest work. They comprise a series of small gardens as well as a large lawn area leading on to avenues of trees affording views out to the old parkland.

The gardens create an outstanding setting alongside the historical house.

As well as individual flower and herb gardens there are sensational walks to be enjoyed along the collection of avenues of trees.

Ashridge House lies 3½ miles north of Berkhamsted off the A4251 or can be easily reached from the A4146 Hemel Hempstead - Leighton Buzzard road.

House tours take place on weekday afternoons in late March, early April, late July and throughout August. Garden tours also take place during these periods on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
