The One Show Book Group
Meet The One Show's book group. They've been meeting every week to read and discuss The Booker Prize shortlisted novels. Read about them here.
Favourite book: The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
I am a Primary Languages Teacher at Robin Hood Primary School, Hall Green.
Since a child I have gone to the library regularly and must constantly have a book to read. I tend to prefer fantasy novels that I can escape into and steer clear of factual and too realistic reads.
I am involved with the school book group and try to get reluctant readers excited about stories.
Favourite book: The Shadow of the Wind by Juan Ruiz.
I am a housewife married to my husband Ali and have one son Volkan.
In my spare time I love to read and belong to three reading groups, one is dedicated to crime. I also do volunteer work for the Pre-School Learning Alliance in Birmingham.
My hobbies are knitting and crafting.
Favourite book: Restless by William Boyd.
I have an engineering degree and work part time, from home, for a computer software company as a technical author.
Other than looking after the family, working and reading I also look after guide dog puppies. I have looked after 10 puppies and last weekend met up with my last puppy who is now a working guide dog.
I have belonged to Harborne library reading group since it’s inauguration 10 years ago. The tastes of the group are varied and rarely do we all like the same book, which makes for lively discussions.
Favourite book: Any Human Heart by William Boyd.
I am a lecturer at Birmingham City University and work alongside students, supporting the development of their academic skills and offering personal and pastoral support.
My excitement around books is based on how they can trigger our imaginations and generally help us to be more creative and critical in our thinking. This imagining helps us to appreciate and understand world views other than our own and can fill us with optimism and hope in our personal and wider circumstances.
Favourite book: Hard-boiled Wonderland And The End of The World by Haruki Murakami.
I am a doctor, writer, lover of the surreal, and bookworm.
A fan of short stories and Japanese literature, I believe that a good book does not merely tell a story, but makes a reader think.
