Singing and performing have always been Siam’s dream. When she was young she would sit in front of the TV for hours watching Motown performers, dreaming that one day she would be a star like Diana Ross.
However, as a child, Siam was very shy and far too nervous to sing in public. A friend once convinced Siam to sing to an audience at the Hackney Empire, in London but, once on stage, Siam’s nerves got the better of her and she ran off.
Siam has worked as a hairdresser for most of her life. She often sings out loud whilst cutting clients’ hair, but for many years the only place where Siam felt confident enough to sing publicly was in church, and she still sings in prayer groups and occasionally performs solo acts at various churches.
A few years ago she started to sing publicly and after getting spotted by an agent she secured a part playing the role of Diana Ross in the West End musical, ‘Dancing in the Streets’. She was in the show for two and a half years and learned a lot from the professional actors.
Siam is a big fan of her Musical Superstar. She says, ‘I’ve always liked Diana and obviously she was a role model.
‘My mum was a definite fan; you know, inside out - the clothes, the wigs, the works! So I got that dressing up from her.’
Proving the point, Siam reveals that she spends her time making the gorgeous outfits that accompany her performance.
She admits, ‘I’m good at making clothes and altering stuff and I’m very experimental when it comes to cutting up clothes and making stuff…so I’ll put a polo neck jumper on my head and it will be a turban.’
Siam lives in London with her two sons.
Siam has a lot of favourite Diana songs. However, her top two are Ain’t No Mountain High
Enough and Upside Down.
