As a child, Ed took part in several school shows, as both an actor and singer, performing his first solo gig at the age of 12, when he played keyboards at his local pub.
He says he knew he wanted a career in music as it was, ‘the only thing I could do’.
In 1992, having been inspired by a Tina Turner tribute act, Ed began to pay tribute to Elton, having been told that he sounded like him. During his tribute performances, Ed imitates Elton’s flamboyant persona by wearing extravagant jackets, wigs and replicas of Elton’s renowned wacky glasses.
We asked Ed where he buys his clothes and glasses.
‘Joke shops! I’ve just got a jacket and a really naff wig.
‘I had these really Elton-looking glasses. They were really cheap and kept coming off my nose. I couldn’t see very well so I had to take out the lenses part way through the gig.’
Fortunately, Ed won’t be buying his own costumes for his live performances on The One and Only… he’ll be leaving it to the experts!
Ed lives in Weymouth with his wife Jenny and two kids; his family is the most important thing in his life and Jenny is his driving force. When asked his favourite past time, Ed says it is cooking a gourmet meal for her.
His favourite Elton song is Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.
