Siam Hurlock

Despite wowing the coaches with her semi-final performance, Siam Hurlock, The One and Only…Diana Ross did not impress you at home and was left battling it out against Joanna Berns, The One and Only…Cher in the Superstar vote. With one vote to three, Siam fell at the final hurdle and crashed out of the contest.

As she heads home, we catch up with Siam to find out more about her rollercoaster journey on The One and Only…

How are you feeling about the semi-final vote?
Just being on the show has been a fantastic opportunity. However, it has helped that I went out on a high. I wouldn’t have wanted to leave when I was in the sing-off on the second live show. At least people got to see me shine! However, the voting isn’t in my control. It is down to the British public and it is about who they want to see in Vegas.

Your journey on the show has been defined by highs and lows. How have you found it?
I’d say I’ve had one of the toughest journeys! The second week was definitely the hardest for me when I was in the sing-off. However, it helped me bring more discipline to my performances.

Did it help to have Superfans on the show?
My Superfans were great. I call them my Superfriends! They were totally supportive and it helped me so much to know that they believed in me.

What was the hardest part of the show for you?
Balancing my home life with the show was quite difficult. I would be at rehearsals during the day then come home and cook dinner for my two sons. However, I wouldn’t have had it any other way, as my sons are everything to me.

Learning Diana Ross’ vocal mannerisms was also a challenge, but it was great to work with such fantastic coaches. David, Carrie and Gary Lloyd worked so hard with all of us. Any weak links in our performances were worked on so that we made these our strengths.

What was your greatest moment?
Being lifted into the air during my semi-final performance was great. I told Gary (the choreographer), ‘Give me the chance and I’ll be flying!’

However, it was great just being on the show. I didn’t know what to anticipate when I found out that I was through to the live shows. However, when I walked into the studio for the first time and saw the stage, the props and the dancers, I couldn’t believe it. Everyone gets treated so well, there is no favouritism on the show. We each get whatever props, backing dancers and costumes are required for our song that week.

But I have to say I think I got some of the greatest costumes! I couldn’t wait to walk into the costume room each week to see what I’d be wearing. I would walk in with my eyes closed. It was just like being Cinderella. I felt a million dollars in those dresses!

Now you are no longer on the show, what is next for you?
I would love this to be an introduction to who Siam Hurlock is! It is great performing as Diana Ross but there is so much more I want to do, as well. I can’t wait for my next adventure!

Will you be voting for any of the acts in the grand final?
I don’t want to say who I’ll be supporting but there are two acts that I feel have what it takes to perform in Vegas. However, I want everyone to go from strength to strength. For me, we are all winners!
