Greg Dorrell

Greg Dorrell, The One and Only…Rod Stewart, might well have been voted off the show, but he hasn’t been forgotten. We caught up with him for a chat, crossing our fingers that he wouldn’t just say, ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It!’

It is never easy being the first act to leave. How are you feeling?

I’m slightly disappointed to have been out so soon because, had I got past the first hurdle, I think ‘Rod’ would have been difficult to beat. However, it is nice to see my friends at home.

Why do you think you lost out in the votes?

As Carrie [Grant, the vocal coach], said, it is about charisma. I’m good at what I do but to be great, I’ve to show more confidence.

I wasn’t totally comfortable in the costume and make-up. I’m used to being Greg paying tribute to Rod Stewart but, on the show, I had to look like him and even had a false nose. I think that might have had something to do with how I performed.

My first performance was quite timid. But, in the second performance, I was much more relaxed and I think the vote could have gone either way.'

Have you learnt anything from being on the show?
I’ve learnt so much. Carrie has taught me about confidence. She put me in situations where I wasn’t comfortable and made me realise that I could do it and that there wasn’t anything to worry about.

I’ve learnt so much as a person. I’ve so much more energy and discipline. I’ve loved the journey because it has made me so much stronger and given me more confidence.

What about the other performers?

They are all great. We had some real laughs, especially in the jacuzzis. I can’t say any more, you just had to be there!

What is next for you?
Rod Stewart is a popular act and I’m not too disheartened because I know that I’m as good as the best [Rod Stewart tribute act] and better than most, vocally.

I think, as an act, Rod Stewart has the ingredients to work well in America. I just have a feeling I’ll be performing there!
