In January 2009, the Government published its first Digital Britain report and invited responses from across the industry. The BBC welcomes the Government’s report, which clearly signals the importance of the digital information and communications sector to the UK. Digital and broadband technologies hold enormous potential to bring great benefits to audiences and to the economy, and we believe that - through our programmes and services - the BBC can play a leading role in helping to build a truly digital Britain.

25 September 2009: BBC Trust published its submission to the Government's consultation.

Ofcom - the independent regulator and competition authority - has launched a review on the future of public service broadcasting (PSB) in the UK. The BBC has been listening to and engaging with our audiences and the creative community to gather a broad range of views on the subject and we have announced a range of proposals to help ensure PSB sustainability.
In January 2009, the BBC Trust published its response, on behalf of the BBC as a whole, to phase two of Ofcom's review of the future role of public service broadcasting.
