119. Dear BBC Thai Team,

Please accept my being disappointed with the decision of the BBC management about closing the Thai Unit which coming soon.

I wonder about the rating evidence for supporting this decision even respect this action. I perferctly understand about change that can happen everywhere especially for this new world of work and business but not appropriate with the Thai Team Unit that performes their best job for Thai people for a long time.

We truly need such a media like this in Thailand during the world changing like this. It is not emotional but for Thai benifits as others. The recent announcement of the BBC management has turned Thai morning and night like a nightmare!

123. To whom it may concern,
I would like to present my point of view in English about the imminent closing down of Thai service although my English is not good enough.

Listeners in Bangkok and surrounding area are mainly the white collar workers who drive the cars to work. These people addict to the news and follow the local and international political development closely. They have a say in many aspects. The BBC board should not underestimate them.

The rating may be low in the same way as the English newspapers of Thailand. Bangkok Post and the Nation have a very low rating especially when compare with the mass circulation Thai newspapers but their influence are not. BBC Thai service are in the same position.

During the cold war and Vietnam war period, BBC Thai service had broadcasted in short wave, the rating was so low but the voice had been heard around, BBC and UK as a whole got the credit. Today Thai service allies with many Thai radio together with the internet, the voice of the BBC has been heard all over of Thailand.

Thai service has been doing the good deed for more than half a century. The hardcore listener have been growing. Now they can get the accurate news from many sources but they choose to listen to the view of the BBC. Although Thailand is more openness than our neighboring countries including Malaysia and Singapore, it do not mean that we do not need the view from the BBC. Many sensitive issues still need outside broadcasters.
For your record, Thai service serves 2 countries. People of Laos can understand Thai, they also listen to Thai service.

Short wave radio are the thing of the past. If you want to cut the budget please stop broadcasting in these waves.

The closing down of Thai service will do more harm to the British interest than Thai. British mouthpiece to Thai have been lost.
The eastern European with the closing down of their BBC could interact with the British more easily than the Thai. Thailand is so far away.

I have been listening to Thai service since my school years in the sixties. I had been through the Vietnam war, the cold war, the communist insurgency, Thai military dictatorship.

It is a pity that Thai service will be axed.
For Thai service's staff in UK and Thailand, I feel close to you, I salute all of you. I send all of you my best regards. You can count on me.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask the BBC board to reevaluate the plan of closing down Thai service.

124. I am one of the biggest fan of BBC in Thai and in English language. I would tell everyone I know who speaks and reads Thai that if they want fair and balance news to log on BBC. I think that a lot of people are missing out on this high quality news due to lack of informations.

It is sad that we are not going to get this special programs.I was very excited when I first discovered Thai writting on BBC news, I would wake up in morning and spending a lot of time with this program reading and listening to the radio in Thai (fortunately I am also an English speaker).

I was delighted to know that Thai people (English and none English speakers) have the opportunity to access to high quality news in Thai. I am sure that a lot of Thai people all around the world are also disappointed to hear this news.Due to the lack of informations in Thai community about this program, there should be more promotions in the Thai community, in Thailand and all around the world. I strongly believe that BBC Thai shold be continue.
