Tees stage: around Teesside and the Tees Valley
Roy Chubby Brown Who the f*** is Chubby?

He's known for being rude on stage and Chubby Brown managed to swear just a few times during his interview with BBC Tees.
Roy "Chubby" Brown in The League of Gentlemen

Where in Teesside are you from?

Grangetown, born in 78 Broadway Road.

What are you best known for?

Stand up comic. The first person to ever say the “C” word on stage in UK!

How did you get started with your career?

Started drumming with a local pop covers band in 1967 to 1972. You earn’t more if you were a comedy/band so I ended being the one who told the gags!

The band broke up and there were two of us left, so we diversified and became “Alcock and Brown”. The rest is history!

Was there anyone person or thing that helped you progress?

My manager George Forster who really made me make the break through from clean comedy to blue comedy which at the time was almost unheard of.

He made me push the boundaries of acceptability and now everyone says f**k!

That and every car I’ve owned since then because I do 80,000 miles a year. You have to if you stay off TV!

What’s your advice for anyone thinking of following in your footsteps?

Work hard, always change your act, remember the people who helped you on the way up and don’t believe the good or the bad stuff written about you.

List your top 3 things about coming from Teesside.

The Boro FC, all my family and coming home!

Where are your favourite places in the area?

Redcar Beach, Chalton Hills, Eston Hills, Stokesley and Yarm

Is there anything you miss when away from the area?

The people.

Can you name three other famous people from the area?

Chris Rea, David Coverdale, Bob Mortimer, Vic Reeves…

Sum up Teesside in one sentence.

It’s home and I love it.
