Celebration
The
Queen wanted her Golden Jubilee to involve the whole country and
Commonwealth in celebration.
The
focus of these celebrations was a Thanksgiving service at St Paul's
Cathedral on 4 June.

Giving Thanks
The
Queen wanted to use the Golden Jubilee celebrations as a way of
saying thank you for the support and loyalty she has enjoyed during
her reign.
Through
her visits, at home and abroad, she hoped to be able to do this.
Service
The
Queen wanted to acknowledge the work of those people who support
and contribute to their communities.
Serving the whole community
The Queen
has expressed her wish that the Golden Jubilee
celebrations reflect the multi-cutural make-up of the UK and that
everyone, no matter what their age, culture or background
will be able to participate.
Looking forward as well as back
The
Queen was keen for the Golden Jubilee to be used as a time for reflection
- to evaluate how much our lives have changed over the last half
a century.
She
also encourages people to look to the future and celebrate the contribution
of young people in our society.
Commonwealth
Seen
by some as an outdated notion, the Commonwealth was at the heart
of the Golden Jubilee celebrations - there was an important Commonwealth
dimension to each of the other Jubilee themes.
