Party on at the Madison

It was an essential part of nightlife in Teesside. Simple as. Housed in what is now The Mall in Middlesbrough, it was a key part of your clubbing days. Now the time has come for a Madison re-union party, so make some space in your social life...

"Welcome to Madison" no longer in lights

On Saturday 16 May the official re-union party of Madison and Macy's will take place at Club Platinum, the old Havana, in Middlesbrough.

Madison nightclub or as it was more commonly known around these parts as "the Madhouse" or "Mad Dogs", was part of the old Cleveland Centre, now The Mall, in the heart of Middlesbrough.  The original club closed down in the late 1990s but for over 20 years it was a must for Teesside clubbers.

Over the last couple of years BBC Tees' John Foster has been celebrating all that was fantastic about Madison on his Saturday night show. The telephone box, the music, the atmosphere, the people... and of course the DJs all made it a unique and unfortgettable experience.

Each week we are still amazed at the response we get on this site and on John's show about the club. Whether it's sharing your memories or taking a look at the photos of the Madison as it was and as it looks now, you continue to get in touch.

So what was it about the Madison?

John Foster explains. "Quite simply it was Middlesbrough's top club. A place that was utterly unique.

"You met your friends there... you knew the staff and you just had a great time and if you ever went to the Cleveland Centre car park entrance you maybe had a better night...

"You were bound to see someone famous in there. Maybe the Boro players or someone who was in the area at the time.

"When we've talked about the madhouse before we've had Barbara Windsor to Tony Mowbray in there but not at the same time you understand!"

What made it so special?

"That telephone box! It felt like a night out... you got dressed up to go there.

"First you would have a bevvie in Billy Paul's then up the stairs to The Madhouse where within 5 minutes you would bump into someone you knew.

What tune is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor? "Anything by Chic or Change."

The re-union party

The Madison & Macy's official re-union party will feature an all star original DJ line up.

Head down to The Star on Southfield Road for the pre party before making your way to Club Platinum for the main party.

To find out about tickets for this night pop into The Star or Club Platinum or call 07528 445883, then look forward to a night which includes snakebites, chicken-in-a-basket and a telephone box...

Listen to John Foster on Saturday nights from 6pm and share your Madison stories and photos with BBC Tees.

Are you going to the re-union? What are you looking forward to? What tunes are you hoping to dance to?
