Real Yorkshire HuskiesStarting a new business right at the beginning of the Credit Crunch might seem like a recipe for disaster, but one year after opening, the owners of "The Pesky Husky Experience", based just outside Whitby, say despite it all, business is booming. Based at the Meeting House Farm in Staintondale, on the North Yorkshire Moors, The Pesky Husky Experience is the only place in the country to have huskies pulling people on scooters. ![]()
Debbie Pullen, who runs the business with her husband, Mick, told BBC Tees that, so far, the gamble has paid off. "We were slightly worried in the beginning, when all this came in the media, about the Credit Crunch, obviously, like anybody in business is, but it doesn't seem to have put anybody off at all. We're selling vouchers, we're selling days, we're selling bookings for families. It's amazing." Maybe the secret of Debbie's success, thus far, has been pricing her experience to fit the current economic times. "You can trek here with us for £35 and there aren't many places where you can do something as different as this for £35." Depending on which research you read, between 20% and 50% of new businesses fail in their first year. Debbie has already beaten those odds. Her next job is to keep the momentum going, as the financial crisis works its way through the UK economy. last updated: 24/11/2008 at 17:23 SEE ALSOYou are in: Tees > Credit Crunch > Real Yorkshire Huskies |
