Presenter profilesYou are in: Tees > BBC Tees > Presenter profiles > Alastair Brownlee ![]() Alastair BrownleeAli returns to BBC Tees After many years away from the BBC, Alastair returns to the station where he was given his first chance to report on his Beloved Boro. Place of birth:8 Byelands Street ,Middlesbrough, within shouting distance of Ayresome Park. What's your favourite part of our area:The Riverside Stadium when Boro have just scored a goal. On rare occasions when I am not watching or thinking about football, I enjoy taking my dog, Benjamin, to the beach at Redcar. Previous jobs:When I left school I went to work in a bank to help finance my Boro season ticket! In 1982, John Allard, who was head of sport here at the BBC, offered me the chance to report on Boro. John knew that I was a keen fan and had belief that I could do a good job. I will always be grateful to him for starting me out in radio. Why do you love your job:Quite simply I could not think of anything else that I would rather do. To be in a position to commentate on your favourite team in action is a privilege and the new daily programme starting in July will also enable the station to show what a great region this is for sport. Most interesting person you have interviewed for radio:Juninho was voted as Boro's number one player of all time and to interview him was terrific. As a Brazilian international and World Cup winner, he did so much to raise the profile of Middlesbrough Football Club. Brian Clough was also a memorable interview, he spoke not only about his European cup triumphs with Nottingham Forest but also about his legendary goalscoring record when he was at Middlesbrough. He was very proud of his time at Ayresome Park and is sadly missed. Person you would most enjoy being stuck in a lift with:My boyhood hero growing up watching Boro was John Hickton. I have spoken with him on a number of occasions but would enjoy chatting about the great penalties he used to take whilst waiting to be released! First record you bought:Boro fans assume it would be the Power Game, a TV theme tune that the team used to run out to, but I was a big fan of Free and I think the first record I bought was "All right Now." The lead singer, Paul Rodgers, came from Middlesbrough so that also helped. Where you are when you get most of your inspiration or creative thoughts:In the commentary box at the Riverside Stadium Funny sayings you like to use:After the UEFA Cup semi final success over Steaua Bucharest, I did invite every fan to my house for a parmo! Supporters still ask if they can come round but as my wife, Wendy, says my cooking is dreadful so they probably wouldn't enjoy it! Any habits, annoying or otherwise:According to my family I do spend far too much time on football but I think they are used to it by now, at least I hope Join Ali Monday - Friday 6pm - 8pm and on Saturdays for Saturday Sport 2pm - 6pmlast updated: 28/07/2008 at 14:39 Have Your SayGot any views on my new programme?
