Potting for Pudsey

A place in the Guinness Book of Records is in sight for two snooker fanatics raising money for Children In Need. The BBC Tees Open Centre is at the centre of the action.

Snooker fans Paul Grace from BBC Tees, and Tom Brown from Redcar and Cleveland College have been potting balls in the BBC Tees Open Centre since Wednesday afternoon.

They want to beat the world record for the longest individual snooker marathon involving 2 players.  The current record stands at 48 hrs & 1 min. That was set by Mark Morton and James Travis at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield during the 2007 snooker world championships.

The fundraising match is taking place on a full match ex world championship table owned by breakaway snooker and pool from Newcastle.

Fatigue has set in but the players are on target to achieve a new record. Speaking before another shot Paul said "We are both completely shattered this has been a long haul, however now we are in single figures the end is in sight."

The record was broken at 2.12pm on Friday, and the players continued for a further hour creating a new record of 49 hours 3 minutes and 58 seconds, this still has to cleared and confirmed by the governing body of Guinness and they beat the old one set in Sheffield by over an hour.

We must say a big thanks to Breakaway Snooker & Pool supplies in Newcastle who supplied the Snooker table free of charge for the record attempt, the table has been used in the past by some of the worlds top players in the past including Ronnie O’Sullivan, Jimmy White and Alex Higgins in their exhibition matches around the country.
