New Mosque in Teesside

Plans are in place and building has begun on Stockton's newest, and Teesside largest, Mosque.

It's going to be three storey's high, with a tower and a dome, and it'll be right in the middle of Stockton...

Work has started on Teesside's biggest mosque, but the £2.2 million bill to make it is going to have to be met by the local Muslim community themselves.

They're still digging deep to raise the money to finish it, but work officially started on the foundations this morning.

The speech at the ceremony included:

"This mosque will be magnificent and unique building in Stockton

"This is like our dream, we have waited 15 years for this day to come.

"We have limited resources...we are trying our best, and I appeal to everybody here to please help us to build and complete this project so that we can fulfil our dreams."

And rest assured, the team working on creating the new mosque will be welcoming everyone to the new build:

"Non Muslims can come and have a look around, but they must have respect. It's God's house, and as you know, God's house is for everyone."
