Jumpin Jaks collapses

See pictures and videos of Middlesbrough's Jumpin Jaks nightclub after it collapsed during demolition.

Part of a building's collapsed in the centre of Middlesbrough as workmen tried to demolish it.

The former Odeon in Newport Road has been under demolition for about a fortnight.

This morning scaffolding and part of the back wall fell down, crushing cars parked below in Fry Street.  No one was hurt.

Early indications are that the roof structure has given way, causing the building to collapse down one side.

Workers in the nearby TGWU building describe hearing "terrifying sounds" and a"huge rumble".

Cleveland Fire officers are there working out how to make the site safe.

Another building gone from Middlesbrough, I have found memories of this place when it was the Odeon watching films with me Gran. It would have been a suitable place for the Empire nightclub to move to as Mandale knocked down the other being the Cleveland Scientific Institution building in Corporation road and the Empire theatre would have been restored and opened back up as a theatre as this would all help with the rejuvenation of Middlesbrough.

That’s another blow for Mandale properties as they recently knocked down the Cleveland Scientific Institution building in Corporation road to the dismay of the Mayor and Residents so how many more buildings are to go until some one stops our past from being destroyed.

Blimey!

This is annoying, in my opinion, working nearby and watching as they have been taking this building down it has been done badly and unsafely. I hope Mandale Property who own it get their wrists slapped, although it still probably works out cheaper with a fine than doing it properly. This inconveniences so many people, working in the Cleveland Business Centre we have just been told NOBODY will be able to use the road at all tomorrow, so we will have to fight to park elsewhere, undoubtedly costing us. Worst thing was, all the workman were sat around laughing... ITS NOT FUNNY..People have been inconvenienced and it could have been so much worse!
