The power of art

The proposed redevelopment of the Gresham area has led a lot of locals to pick up their paint brushes.

The redevelopment of the Gresham area inspired an art exhibition by the students at Cleveland College of Art and Design.

The exhibition included paintings and sculpture and depicts their experience of "upheaval", which is coincidentally the name given the the exhibit.

The artists have observed the impact the redevelopment has had on locals and their lives, focusing on the radical physical and psychological changes the residents will experience during the proposed demolition of 1,500 homes and businesses.

The exhibition was held at Northern Trophies, in the first floor above the shop, between Saturday 21st and Thursday 26th January 2006, but you can hear about the exhibition here...
