Alcohol for the over 5s?

How old is old enough for alcohol? Under 15s shouldn't be allowed alcohol, that's the view of England's top medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson. He thinks childhood should be an "alcohol- free time" and told the BBC that children who do drink were at risk of "serious harm". At the moment the law says parents can allow children over 5 to drink alcohol at home. The guidance which ISN'T expected to become law also says 15-17 year olds shouldn't drink alcohol more than once a week - and then only under supervision from carers or parents. Guidance for Scotland and Northern Ireland is due to be issued shortly.
