[hood-ee] noun, hoodiem Latin – A Hoodie is a person who listens to hip-hop, grime and rap music. They are often seen with other hoodies, wearing hoodies. Their laid back lifestyle is often misinterpreted as a lack of motivation.

We searched the net,spoke to tribes and hung out with them: all to find out what it would be like to be… one of them?

Here's what we found out: -

What would I wear?

• Believe it or not, I would wear hoodies all the time.
• Depending on how crazy I feel, I may wear a hoodie with a zip.
• Good brand name t-shirts under a hoodie is vital: Nike, Adidas, Puma, D and G, Bench, etc.
• If I want to look a bit smarter I'd buy smart jumpers and maybe even a cardigan.
• Trousers: Baggy tracksuit bottoms but jeans if it's a special occasion.
• Trainers so white they would blind you if you stare at them for more than 3 seconds.

What about music?

• Grime, Rap, R'n'B and Dance are the main types of music I listen to.
• I download most of my stuff from the internet and hear about new music from my friends
• Being able to find local music talent is important.
• Practicing on the decks in your bedroom is not enough to call yourself a DJ, you've got to get out there and show off your skills.
• I'm lethal on the mic.

What do I think?

• A hoodie is not a chav!
• My laid back attitude does not mean I don't care; it's just how I am.
• My friends and family are the most important thing to me… football is a close second.
• Wearing a hoodie does not make me a criminal. Wearing a hoodie is comfortable and part of the fashion where I live.

What do I do?

• I hang out with my mates around my community and at each others houses.
• I like to go to my local youth centre to see what's going on.
• Football, MC-ing and DJ-ing can easily take up most of my weekends.
• I keep up to date with the local music scene and support them when I can.
• There's nothing better than beating your mates on a good computer game on the Xbox or Playstation.
