Singled out

There's a school of thought that says: being in a relationship makes you happy; being single makes you a loser. As schools go, it's about as helpful as the London College of Monkey Ballet.

Being single doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you - or that you're alone. But some people fear it more than being buried alive...

Factoid London has the most single people in Britain - 51%

Lonely planet

Being single can be tough, especially if everyone else seems to be pairing off.

When your best buddy spends all their time with a new hottie, you can feel left out. But friendship lasts longer than a fling, and your friend will soon come crawling back.

It's also hard adjusting to single life when you come out of a relationship. Some people are so bothered about it they'll immediately get involved with someone else just to avoid being single.

But if you start seeing someone for the wrong reasons, chances are you'll be on the shelf again before you can say Jodie Marsh...

The waiting game

Everyone will be single at some point - maybe for months or even years on end. It's often just about being patient. There's nothing wrong with waiting for the right person.

It can be frustrating. But it's quite natural: why do you think they invented, ahem, self-servicing?

Hit single

There are loads of benefits to being single.

You can do what you want with who you want - whether it's snogging a sort on holiday or flirting with a fittie on Facebook.

You get more time with your friends, you can go on the pull and you don't need to worry about your other half all the time. The world is your oyster.

In the long-run you'll probably spend most of your life in a relationship - so enjoy being single while you can!

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Franky , 16
Many people think that its not right that I have been single for over 5 years, but that's one of the better things in life. I find that being single is better than being with a partner. I find that I can chat anyone with out have the problem of someone else being worried. I do have a lot of time to myself though which can be cool. Never the less you do have down times when you just want to cuddle up to someone...In the long run, I have found out a lot about girls that I probable wouldn't know if I was in a relationship. So this in my opinion works out well in the end! Thanks,Frank
