Tomfoolery

A woman's shoe on a football

I am a tomboy and I keep gettin teased by my friends (girls) that I would never get married b'cos all the boys will see me as their mates. Is this true and how do i stop them from teasing me. my mum also teases me about the same thing. Help.

A cup of tea

Hello there Eve!

As a certified boy with certified boy experience, I can tell you it’s the girls that make good mates, that make great girlfriends. Relationships are as much about friendship then anything else.

When it comes to stopping your friends teasing you, all I’d say is be honest with them. Tell them that it upsets you when they are mean and that you’d never make them feel uncomfortable about their insecurities. Have you ever thought that when your friends make remarks about you being good mates with boys it could be a bit of jealousy?

It’s really important you’re honest with your mum as well. Get a couple of brews on the go and ask her for a big heart to heart. It’s amazing what can be solved over a cup of sugary tea.

And finally, I don’t really think now’s the time to start worrying about marriage ;-). I’m positive none of the boys you know will be thinking about walking down the aisle quite yet. Just carry on being who you want to be and the rest will definitely fall into place.

Good luck,

Grant (a boy)

Three girls linking arm in arm

Hey Eve

There is no rule saying you can't be friends with boys. I know pleny of girls who do. Just coz you're mates with them doesn't mean you wont ever get married.

You could perhaps say to your friend 'Well, when I do get a boyfriend/get married, I will understand them better coz I have been friends with boys'.

Or just politely say it's not fair that you keep on teasing me, it's really annoying and upsetting, perhaps you could say this to your mum too? x

Next week's question:

My friends are awesome-most of the time, but sometimes at lunch mostly they start doing really stupid things like having custard and crisps together and screaming really loudly for no reason. It can be really embarrasing because they shout my name and call me a whoos because I don't want to eat disgusting things - is it wrong to not want to eat horrible stuff? I have another friend who feels the same way as me and neither of us know what to do about it. Please help.
