Friends helping friends

Friends, eh? They can be flippin hard work. You keep emailing us about them, so we're putting as many of your questions as we can up here >>>

My friends don't include me

A girl shunned by her friends

My best friend became friends with this other group of girls about a year ago. They're fun to be with, but they they can also be horrible. They'll plan all sorts of stuff for the weekend in front of me, but never invite me. But they're happy to have me around when they want someone to come and help them with homework.

My best friend must see how they treat me, but she never says anything. And I really like my best friend - I want to hang round with her still. Help!!

Chloe, 14

A girly night in

Hey Chloe,

Well, to start off with, if she really is your best friend then you should talk to her, because best friends don't do things like that. If she knows that they're being out of order, she should (as your best friend) stick up for you.

Maybe she doesn't realise that these girls are being horrible, or can't see that she's leaving you out if she's busy trying to impress them or get to know them a bit more? It could also be that she's worried that if she says something about the way they're treating you then they'll start treating her like that too (I'm not saying that's defo what's going on, though).

Secondly, if this other group of girls only want you around when it suits them and never invite you out, then they're not real friends. Have you ever asked if you can go along with them? In my opinion, if they're not going to invite you along to fun stuff at the weekend then they don't deserve your friendship.

And they certainly shouldn't get to use your brains to get them good grades. That's just not fair is it? Especially as it sounds like they are being really mean.

If the group of girls don't want to invite you out at the weekend then don't help them with their homework - why should you put in the hard work because they're busy having fun at the weekend without you?

Finally, whatever happens with these girls, you and your best friend can still hang out without them. Why don't you invite her over for a sleepover, get some popcorn, a good film and have a night in where it's just the two of you?

Hope that helps, Chloe :-)
