Friends helping friends

Friends, eh? They can be flippin hard work. You keep emailing us about them, so we're putting as many of your questions as we can up here >>>

My lad's a player, but I still fancy him

A girl, clocking her boyfriend snogging a random.

I really like this lad and I just dont know where I stand with him anymore. He says he really likes me and then I have heard that he goes out with other lasses on a night and gets with them and that. I have tried making him jealous and I know it was stupid of me to do so but it happened.

I really don't know what to do with him no more, because I really like him and he just sometimes doesn't give the impression he likes me back. At school we always talk when we see each other and on msn we do as well, but I can't stop thinking about him and my head gets messed up all the time because of him. People say I should just try and forget about him because he has hurt me so much, but I really dunno what to do.

Should I keep on trying with him or just try and forget about him?

Hannah, 14

Our mate Tulip says:

Boys. They are probably players.

Hi Hannah,

It sounds like this guy is a bit of a player. The best option here is to move on and stop getting messed around. Give the boy some distance; things always seem to fall in to place when you stop trying.

If this guy does still like you, by meeting new people he might get jealous and show his interest in you. Then if you still like him and he stops messing you around you can go for it!

Or, more likely, you'll end up liking someone new even more and forget about the player. If you do meet someone new and the old guy shows no interest, then you know it was the right choice to move on.

Trying to make the guy jealous is not a terrible crime - it's something many girls do to win over the guy. Generally boys like their space, and playing hard to get often does work. However don't play too hard to get - you don't want to drive them away. You need to create an equal balance between having fun with them, subtly showing your interest and giving them a chase.

So have fun and stop stressing over one guy who may or may not like you. There will be many guys to come in the future so there's no need to panic and rush into a relationship.
