Boy's View

Updated: Wednesday

Slink's resident boy reveals the inner workings of his kind

Why do guys always go for girls with no personality, but who are gorgeous, rather than just normal looking girls who are really nice?

The clue is in the "who are gorgeous" bit. You've stumbled upon the unpleasant theory that girls can be boring and even evil but if they are fit, hordes of boys will be falling over themselves to kiss them. Clearly, these boys are misguided fools...

You could try blaming the media. From a young age lads are programmed to aspire to girls who are conventionally hot. The media bombards us with their faces and legs and hair so that when we see one in real life, we're drawn towards her like Peaches Geldof to an after party.

Another reason some lads go for bland beauties is that they think a hot-looking girlfriend will make them look cool. Not even a gold Rolex or a freestyle-rapping cat can trump the lad points you get for having a fittie on your arm. But again, do you want to go out with a boy who places such importance on lad points? (even if he does have a cool cat)

Fortunately, most lads are not completely shallow. If these gorgeous chicks are as dull as you say, they won't be able to hold boys’ attention forever. No self-respecting lad would want to go out with a hot girl they don’t actually like.

When it comes to girlfriend material, given the choice most boys will go for someone "normal-looking" and nice over a gorgeous bore. So while snooty hot girls might attract most attention at first, they’ll ultimately be left on the shelf... until they become nicer. Hooray!

Please remember: Kev is not an expert, he is just a boy and sometimes quite a silly boy. The main thing to remember when it comes to lads and relationships is to expect respect as the absolute minimum. Find out more about a Women's Aid campaign of the same name.
