Why do boys lick their lips and wink at you?
Wowser. Hmm, okay...
Well I think I've got a pretty good idea why, but first let's discount any possible alternative explanations, because I'd hate to get this one wrong.
Has he been eating donuts? Is there something in his eye? Was he looking at the packet of crisps you were holding? Does he have a facial tic? If you got four nos, read on.
It's not an easy one to pull off, this manoeuvre. And certainly not every boy would attempt it as it requires confidence and bravery. If it comes out wrong, it could make you look anything from perverted to mentally ill.
Let's start with the wink. If they wrote one of those 'Dummies' Guides' to flirting, the wink would be on page one. It's a great move for the beginner, although personally I think winking is overrated. If you don't do it properly, it can make your face look weird.
The lip-licking thing would not be on page one of the flirting guide. In fact, it wouldn't even be in the first chapter. It's far more ambitious. It's like a male equivalent of fluttering your eyelids, but infinitely more disgusting.
It's a boy's way of implying - strongly - that he is some kind of precocious sexual panther. Whether you choose to agree or not is up to you.
He'll probably assume his seductive display made him look as irresistible as Timberlake. But if you have to ask why he's done it then it must have gone completely over your head, which just leaves him looking like a sad little winker.
