Boy's View

Updated: Wednesday

Slink's resident boy reveals the inner workings of his kind

How do you act around a boy when he's just found out you fancy him?

A common solution is to go bright red, stagger into a nearby toilet cubicle and hide there until teatime. But there are other options too.

Sometimes boys need a bit of encouragement, so this could easily work in your favour... as long as you don't look desperate. Knowing you're keen gives him power - and boys abuse power almost as much as they abuse themselves. If he thinks you're easy he'll assume he doesn't have to try so you need to keep him guessing. In other words try to act as normally as possible, and avoid leering/fainting/vomiting in his presence.

If he does fancy you, and he knows you fancy him, he'd have to be a complete bell-end to mess it up. So let him make the next move. He may get a bit cocky and start flirting with you. Flirt back, but try to play it cool. He knows you're interested so there's no need to show him more affection. Just because the cat's out of the bag he should still have to, as it were, chase it. What I mean is: boys like a challenge.

If he doesn't fancy you, he'll probably just avoid the issue. Confusingly, he might avoid you even if he does fancy you - because he's a bit embarrassed and doesn't know how to act himself. Depends how shy he is.

Worst case scenario is that he isn't interested, everyone finds out, and you feel like a plum. But that's cool. Simply pick up a good magazine, and head to the bog.

Please remember: Kev is not an expert, he is just a boy and sometimes quite a silly boy. The main thing to remember when it comes to lads and relationships is to expect respect as the absolute minimum. Find out more about a Women's Aid campaign of the same name.
