Why doesn't he call me when he says he will?
You love it when he calls, but he never calls at all.
Most girls know the feeling. The reason is simple: gender. It's a rule that girls like talking more than boys. In a single day a girl spouts 20,000 words, while a boy mumbles just 7,000. That's a fact. I read it, somewhere. Boys talk, girls babble. Babbling is like talking except that 87% of the words spoken are totally pointless. When boys talk, things are achieved. Plans are made, deals are struck, witty putdowns are delivered. Our phone chats are short and sweet: 'Alright mate, meet you there at 5, bring that DVD, I snogged your girlf last night. Later.'
For a boy, a phone is a functional device rather than a babbling instrument. We think talking on the phone is boring. That's why a lengthy phone conversation with a boy will be littered with awkward silences. If he hasn't got anything specific to tell you, he'll wonder what the point is. It's not necessarily because he doesn't like you. He might just be having more fun doing something else. By all means tell him off, but it might backfire. If he's just calling you because you want him to it will seem like a chore.
Having said all that, if he persistently promises to call but never does then that's a bit naughty. It implies he can't be bothered to speak to you, which ain't a good sign. He has to call you sometime - what else will he do with all those free minutes..?
Please remember: Kev is not an expert, he is just a boy and sometimes quite a silly boy. The main thing to remember when it comes to lads and relationships is to expect respect as the absolute minimum. Find out more about a Women's Aid campaign of the same name.
