Best Friend Awards 2009: The Results
Sniff...
Here are some of our faves from the many emails we received, but remember - each and every one of us is a winner in a totally Susan Boyle type way and any friend of yours is a friend of Slink!
The Florence Nightingale Prize for Nursing
Libby nominated her bezzie Kerry
"I have cystic fibrosis (a lung disease) and I am in and out of hospital at least 3 times a year.
She is the only one of my friends that has ever come to visit me in hospital.
She also arranged a card to be made and signed by my class at school and sent it to the hospital with a huge bunch of roses for me.
I don't know what I would do without her, I love her so much!"
The Lily Allen Absorber award for Rant Absorption
Shona loves her mate Talea
"My ultimate best friend is my friend Talea.
She's like the stars in the sky, she can always make me laugh when I'm low even if I dont want to laugh, she listens to me rant after work and doesn't complain - I can always count on her if I need to talk to someone.
I seriously don't know what I would do without her, she is seriously my sister from a different mister!!!!!!!!!"
The Martin Lewis commendation for Pound Finding
Madeleine rates her friend Caitlin
"She'll be there for me, whether you're in the midst of exam despair or jumping up and down over finding a pound on the floor.
I love her mostly as she's so straightforward with me and I know I can put my entire faith in her to keep secrets and come up with stupid jokes with me.
Underrated to the point of insanity, Caitlin rocks."
The Mother Teresa Cross for Selflessness
Charlotte wants everyone to know how selfless Emma is
"A couple of years ago, she had a major back operation and had to stay in hospital for a weeks, but instead of fretting about it and moaning, she picked up her phone and texted me and asked about my day.
And once, I went through a rough patch, where I was fixated on the idea that I was mental, and undeserving, and generally a bad person, she was the one to bring me back."
The Homme Award for Male Friendliness
Katiee reckons Sam is her BMWIAB (Best Mate Who is a Boy)
"Sam helped me through a lot last year when I was suffering from depression, and he did things for me I never imagined anyone would ever do.
He's always there when I need to talk, and he has all the same qualities as a girl bestie. We both go shopping and have sleepovers together and he loves it!"
The Borg Award for Group Achievement
Shannon nominated everyone in her town, practically
"Elana, Emma, Emily, Jasmin, Anna and Shona are my absolute life. I'm nominating them because they're are truly one in a million. I've never met anyone like them, they are honestly the kindest people in the world.
They tell me the truth about anything and I know I can absolutely trust them with anything and they will never judge me. I love these girls to pieces."
The Eeeeeeek Ackeeee Ping award for Wacky Pals
Hannah and Amanda are mental in friendly way
"Hiii Slink!! :) I'd love to nominate my best friend in the entire world ever - her name is AMANDA.
She also has the longest hair I have ever seen! We've been best mates for a whole eight years, ever since she thought I was a witch, hiding behind the bins and casting spells when we were in yr 2!
Now we're mature and act sensibly all the time (yerr right!! haha!)
We laugh, we cry, we scream, we shout, we whisper, we work hard (sometimes!), we mess about (nearly all the time!), we play in the snow or sun, we look at all my animals, we have random sleepovers (and I usually fall asleep at like 7pm!! haha), we go to school camp and have an amaziing time, we are going to be millionaires!"
The Samuel Johnson Award for Word Creation
Amber's mate Layla invented a cool word
"I'd like to nominate my best friend Layla, for staying with me when I was so so upset over a boy, for being able to make me laugh no matter what, when we make up silly words like 'brothing' and when we write each other 2 sides of A4 paper saying how we love each other more.
She's the most amazing, funny, gorgeous best best friend in the whole entire world.
"
The "He's just a boy" award for services to the broken hearted.
Jess gives Bethany the best friend advice
"My friend is always there for me and always supports me.
When I have boy trouble she always gives me advice. If there's a boy we both like she always encourages me to go for him saying there is always plenty more fish in the sea.
"
The Magic Granny Award for long term commitment
Gabi's going all the way to the top with her mate Philipa
"She's there for me when I am sad, we snort like pigs in ICT, make stupid faces on webcam and she does whatever it takes to make me happy.
And when one of us gets rejected by a boy we help each other spread rumours about him (we only do it sometimes!).
We are quite sensationaly mad and people stare when we dance to the worst music when it comes on. We are always together, sleep walk at each other's houses but its great fun and we are definitely going to be race car drivers when we are older! (dont worry....we're joking!)
No-one's friendship is stronger then ours and I hope it stays like that until we are old and wrinkly!
"
The Delia Smith special commendation for appropriate application of chocolate and dinner
Erin knows the route to happiness is through the stomach of Emily
"I think my friend Erin should win because she always makes me laugh and buys me nice presents.
She cheers me up when I'm down, and is always for a laugh. When I was ill she brought me a chocolate bar, she always makes me dinner when I feel sad.
She rings me everyday to make sure I am ok and to tell me she loves me before she goes to sleep. We are such great pals! i love you Erin!!!!!
