A queue of girls clad in black hide from the heat in the shade of the Hammersmith Apollo, London.
The reason they're here? The words FALL OUT BOY, emblazoned above the doors. Slink is ushered inside, up never ending staircases to the eaves of the building and into a tiny room. Into the tiny room walks a surprisingly tiny Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy (obv). Aside from the trademark cap 'n' sideburns he's rather different to the moody rock god we expected. Amiable and polite, he reminds us of the laid back kid who was everyone's mate at school. He's also surprisingly cute.
This is a proper massive tour - isn't there tons of pressure?
Patrick says: Well, I like playing music so that's really the thing for me. Pressure's a funny thing 'cause I think it's totally optional whether or not you want to feel it. I didn't mean that I didn't think it was massive for us - I just wasn't really aware of us being that big. I mean big tours are for, like, Timberlake and a Van Halen reunion - Van Halen reunited! We're just some little old rock band y'know. [Slink note: Pfft, 'little', yeah right]
You're gigging the same night as MCR - what's it like going head to head?
Patrick says: I wasn't even really aware except for the fact that they're my friends and they were gonna be in town! When I watch them I sit back and I'm like "Wow, that's awesome! We should do something, not like that, but as effective as that". I think that's what bands do, at least that's what bands in my circle of friends do. I guess My Chemical Romance are some of my closest friends in 'the industry'.
Finally, every girl's dilemma - how to stay sexy in the mosh pit?
