The
National Asthma campaign is highlighting the problems families face,
including gaining early diagnosis, and concerns about some medication.
The
report also suggests six times more children have asthma now than
25 years ago.
This could be due to lifestyle and the environment as Deborah Jacks
the deputy chief executive of the campaign explained.
"There
is clean air and clean air. It is the particles that cause asthma
and we do need more research.
"There have been two studies recently that have suggested a
link but really we need to spend a lot more money on research to
really understand what it is in the air that is causing the asthma
and what we can do to eliminate it," said Deborah Jacks.
The
National Asthma campaign also claims many are not getting the right
support from the professionals who care for them.
Frances
Bates from the campaign's Sudbury branch says there is a lot of
misunderstanding about asthma and parents should learn as much as
possible about it.
"Asthma
is not something we can take lightly. Some children have mild asthma
and it never gets any worse but I believe in the region of about
two thousand people a year die from asthma," Frances Bates.
