It's a very busy time of year if you are a shepherd! Suffolk Wildlife Trust's Val Sherwen has not got much sleep over the past two weeks as their flock of Beulah ewes have been busy producing.

Lambs
It's a very tiring job!

Normally the 600 or so sheep are out grazing the Sandlings Heathland.

The 'flying flock' as they have been called were brought in 1989 to help restore the heathland.

Ewe
This Ewe has been brought to the farm for lambing

Since the 1930s four fifths of the sandlings has been lost to agriculture, forestry and development. By eating the coarse grass and plants that would invade the heathland the sheep are vital to the sandlings conservation.

The sheep are brought to the Trusts Foxburrow Farm for lambing, and every year you can go along and see - and sometimes cuddle - the new lambs.

Val Sherwen says that this year the ewes have been very prompt delivering their lambs. They have produced as many lambs in the first two weeks as normally occur for the most of April.

The ideal is for a ewe to produce twins. Some have triplets and then Val sometimes has to take one away if the mum cannot feed it. This year she has 12 orphan lambs which are hand fed, and very cuddly.

Very interesting thanks. I am a believer of ghosts, however it is clear that the pic of the wall and mysterious white shape on the right is clearly. Its obviouos to me this is fabric. I find it hard to imagine that u people cannot see this.

Most if not all ghost walks are a joke. I have been on some and as always, somewhere along the line something fake happens. I have had the experience of seeing a real ghost in my house.

Darren, Ipswich
The 'strange' item on the Priory wall photograph looks like a very spooky camera strap that has fallen in front of the lens and been overexposed by the amount of light falling on it from the flash...

Chris, Cambridge
Just how rare are great crested newts - every road construction project seems to find a colony!

Oskar, U.S.A.
I'm glad you are protecting amphibians. Most people have only heard of these newts in the pet trade.

amy, framlingham
