Miss Black America are Seymour Glass, singer/ guitarist; Mat Anthony, guitar, Johnny Steele, bass and Simon Cooper, drums.

The name Miss Black America is a familiar one to regular gig-goers in the Eastern region, as they've been airing their sound in various venues across the county and beyond.

Brand spankingly new?

Mat Anthony and Simon Cooper
New line ups both material and band

But this is the NEW Miss Black America, and dare I say it, the improved version too with the only surviving member after the shake up, being Seymour Glass. (No disrespect to the previous band members intended!)

Pillar of support

Sunday night was all about Miss Black America as they were headliners on the bill. Prior to MBA on stage were Houston 500 and Dopejam, both of which carried themselves musically with a confident rocked-out rages which complemented the new sound of Miss Black.

All in aid of a good cause

Sunday night's gig was in aid of the 'Love music hate racism' tour in conjunction with the promotional airing of their new single 'Drowned By Numbers.' The new single is released on Monday. 18 August, 2003. Available on cd single format plus limited edition 7" yellow vinyl. The vinyl single features MBA’s, ‘Drowning By Numbers’ and fellow tour mates, Cultural Ice Age’s, ‘Reclusive Coma.’

Sloppy seconds?

Incidentally, this is the first MBA material to be released since the band parted company with Integrity records last September.

The Crowd
No room at the Inn...

Packing in the crowd on Sunday night was the Priors Inn, Bury St. Edmunds with around 100 punters raring to hear local boy's, MBA's new material

Back to school

The Crowd
Have you got any ID, mate?

The crowd was mostly made up of sixth-form students and my friends and I were wondering if we were going to get ID-ed for being too old! Regardless of age, the crowd was incredibly enthusiastic, notably during MBA's set. Especially with the rows nearest the stage revelling in rock 'n' roll ravings.

Crowd favourites were 'Miss Black America' (a track previously penned by the previous band set up) and the much anticipated new single, 'Drowning by Numbers'.

Aimee and Tom
It's a thumbs up from Tom!

The new and improved sound, was a lot heavier than that that has previously been heard from MBA. With the new sound complimenting other up-and-coming bands such as Kineses and Winnebago Deal.

After the gig there was a pleasant meet and greet the band opportunity. With the boys' new material and new sound, the future might well be bright for these guys. As you can see punters at the Priors Inn were happy with the night's outcome.
