The full-length portrait shows the Queen standing at the window of a room in Buckingham Palace.

Beyond the balcony is a composite view of some of the best-known sights in the Commonwealth.

The Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is one of the world’s great natural attractions. The falls are 1.7 kilometres across and the drop below into the Zambezi Gorge is over 100 metres. Half a million cubic metres of water fall every minute.

The Greek-Roman amphitheatre in the ancient city of Kourion in the south of Cyprus is one of the Mediterranean’s most majestic sights.

Great Zimbabwe is the greatest medieval city in Sub-Saharan Africa. Situated in the south-east of Zimbabwe, its impressive structures, such as the Great Enclosure and the Conical Tower, date back to the 13th and 15th centuries.

The twin Petronas Towers skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are the world’s tallest buildings.

King Njoya’s Palace is situated in the ancient Kingdom of Bamun, in the mountains of western Cameroon and was a renowned centre for culture and education.

Australia’s Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognisable images of the modern world and was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1973.

The Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. It is a mausoleum situated near Agra in India and was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

The Houses of Parliament were built in the mid-19th century on the site of the old Royal Palace of Westminster, and is one of London’s best-known buildings. A Victorian gothic masterpiece, it accommodates the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

The Kasubi Tombs are on the site of a royal palace enclosure on Kasubi Hill in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The painting shows a traditional reed and barkcloth building of the kings of the Baganda people.

Montego Bay in the north west of Jamaica is one of the country’s principal tourist resorts.

The totem pole on the far right of the painting is a First Nations Totem Pole from British Columbia, Canada.
