The River Yox from which it took its name is hardly worth a sideways glance but stop and explore and you discover a bit of a gem where village life is alive and well.

In the days before the motorcar this was an important staging post on the road between London and Yarmouth.

Charles Dickens is even known to have travelled this way along what was then the Old London Road.

Hello Helen. I think we may be related. My grandmother was Sarah Leverett from Yoxford. She had a brother Henry who married a Doris. Is that your family. Lovely if it is.

We were going to drive through but were lucky enough to stop and discover a charming village with quaint shops, charming people and a fantastic fish and chip shop (the smoked haddock with poached eggs was out of this world).
