Eye Town Centre

It may now have a population of under 2000 but Eye was once a town of great significance and power.

After the Norman conquest, the town was at the centre of a large land empire.

Whoever controlled it had all the power that such an empire could bring.

Over the centuries the town has developed into a local centre as a castle, priory and then a maginificent church were built.

Even to this day it offers a larger range of shops and services than you would expect a town of this size to be able to support.

The town is packed with character from the "crinkle-crankle" wall to the Guildhall.

The stunning church tower is more than 100 feet high and has been described as one of the wonders of Suffolk.

Is Eye important to you? What makes it such a special town?

My ancestors were also from Eye. My Great Great Grandfather was born in Eye in 1845. His father was a brazier and I'm trying to find any information I can either about what he might have done or any relations - Surname BLACKBURN
