As well as campaigning to raise the profile of the sport nationwide, the 28-year-old has also opened his own kickboxing academy in Suffolk. - Q: When were you born?
- A: I was born in Ipswich on the 1st of December 1978.
- Q: How was your time at school?
- A: Very good. I went to Springfield Infants School in Ipswich, then moved to Holland with my parents and finished my education over there. Then I moved back to Ipswich.
- Q: What was your favourite subject?
- A: Biology, the teacher was very nice and he made sure you understood everything before moving on to the next subject, and PE because I love sports.
- Q: What did you want to do when you left school?
- A: I wanted to become a World Champion Kickboxer.
- Q: Tell us a bit about your career so far and your goals for the future.
- A: I am the WFKKO World Champion, 2006 WAKO British Champion, BFKKO British Champion, WAKO Gold Medallist, ranked number one in Britain and number five in the World. I inspire to be the best that I can possibly be at what I love to do. I am a very friendly, but also determined and focussed person and I want to leave my mark and make people around the world see that there are good fighters from Suffolk. I'm planning to coach youngsters to make them future world champions.
- Q: What are you planning for 2007?
- A: I want to defend my world title in Ipswich this year and as I have been made Suffolk Area Promoter. It is looking very good and I will be brining elite fighters from around the world to fight there. I am competing for three world titles this year and two more the beginning of next year.
- Q: If you could change one thing in Suffolk, what would it be?
- A: It's not a Suffolk thing but smoking should be thrown in the bin!
- Q: Have you travelled much?
- A: Yes, I have been all round Europe, Dubai, Australia, New Zealand (to fight for a world title) and Thailand to train with Grandmaster Sor Vorapin.
- Q: Tell me about your job today.
- A: I am the Chief Instructor of the Red Phoenix Academy which runs in Great Finborough and Buxhall (near Stowmarket) on Tuesday and Friday. I teach kids and adults of all skill and fitness levels World Class Kickboxing. I am a fully qualified personal trainer in kickboxing, fitness, circuit training, diet and nutrition as well as being a professional kickboxer. I am the Suffolk Area Promoter/Team Selector for professional kickboxing.
- Q: Do you have any future plans?
- A: I want to become Undisputed World Kickboxing Champion and I want to be ranked number one in the world. I want to share my knowledge of kickboxing with anybody that is willing to learn and hopefully make future kickboxing champions, as we have a lot of talent in Suffolk, but they just need that extra push and support to get there. I also would love to become the GB British Coach when I retire from competing.
- Q: What's your favourite song?
- A: Any Red Hot Chilli Pepper song.
- Q: What book are you reading now?
- A: The Hitman (My Story) by Ricky Hatton as he is one of my idols.
- Q: Anything else you want to add?
- A: On 10 March it's the clash of champions show in Newark. I will be fighting Jamie Norkett, the ISKA Britsh Champion, for the Goldenbelt. Also on that show is Dean Sugden, WKA World Champion vs Lex Easdon, 6X World Champion.
