Rachel Sloane

Rachel Sloane

Rachel has worked in local radio in Suffolk for nearly 25 years and is married with two adult sons and three grandchildren. She somehow finds time to do lots of public speaking, and is a patron of several charities.

These include being a patron of Optua (formally Rethink Disability), a Trustee of the Ipswich-Biera Health Initiative (helping to train doctors in Mozambique) and she's also a member of the committee for the Ipswich and Suffolk Small Business Association.

"On Saturday mornings, we really try to get you up and going with news of interesting events happening around Suffolk, environmental projects, local history, holiday ideas and ideas for foodies....and those who just hate shopping too!

"Once a month we feature a Suffolk community, meeting the people who live and work in villages or estates around Suffolk, in Rachel’s Weekend Visit.

"On Sunday mornings we chat about the day's news, play some great music and hear about the events that are important in the faith communities around Suffolk. It may be fundraising for a parish church or the challenges of young people growing up and living in a multi-faith country - whatever seems important to Suffolk people we'll be there between 6.00am and 9.00am."

Best moment on air: When a huge Donny Osmond fan helped me interview him live, "down-the-line". She misunderstood, and rushed from her check-out job at the local supermarket thinking it was with me in the studio. Rather than disappoint her, I invited her to join me. Donny was really nice to her – and she nearly fainted with excitement!

Worst moment on air: When my producer secretly arranged for me to be taken to the Regent Theatre for a private performance of Puppetry of the Penis… and I had to do a live commentary on BBC Radio Suffolk on what I was watching!
