They are black-belts in Kuk Sool Won, a traditional Korean martial art practised by over two million people worldwide.

What is Kuk Sool Won?

Kuk Sool is a dynamic art that helps individuals to develop physically, mentally and emotionally.  It comprises a  number of disciplines, including sparring, kicking, hand-striking, weapons training with swords and staffs, meditation and flexibility and places a heavy emphasis on self defence.

The tutors have more than fifteen years martial arts experience between them and Lynn was formerly a black-belt Karate instructor before taking up Kuk Sool.

Karen and Lynn, who studied under Bury-based teacher Richard Jones, won their first European titles in sparring at Norwich in June last year. In September 2004 Lynn won the 40+ black-belt Grand Champion title at the Spanish Championships in Barcelona and in November Karen won seven medals at the British Championships in Birmingham.

This year Karen has won the Ladies black-belt Grand Champion title in Spain and Lynn has collected three further medals. Both performed well at the European Championships with an additional eight medals between them.
