During this time she has seen the building of the Millennium Tower. Symbolically taking place at the start of the third millennium, the Suffolk Cathedral Millennium Project includes the completion of the central tower, the north transept, part of the cloisters and two new chapels. ![]() Scaffold Beams, by Lillias August Built to last a thousand years, it is one of only a few Millennium Lottery projects with a spiritual significance. This exhibition offers a unique insight into the world behind the scaffold through the eyes of the project artist, Lillias August. Lillias' eye has tracked the growing building from its embryonic state in the quarry through to its coming of age as it reached the top. Her studied drawings and finished watercolours reflect on the importance of each component as it waits to play its part. Like the East Anglian landscape, the building site has a raw and unconventional beauty. Lillias' personal journey culminates in a series of works based on the form of the Cross which, having recently toured to regional Cathedrals, will also be on show during this exhibition. ![]() Blue Plastic, by Lillias August Work in the exhibition is for sale and an illustrated catalogue is being published to coincide with the opening on 16th July 2005. The catalogue will serve, not only as a record of the project artist’s work, but also as a tribute to this unique building project and to all the craftsmen who have worked on site. The exhibition runs from 16th July - 24th August 2005 at The Cloisters, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Open daily 10am - 4.30pm. last updated: 25/06/2008 at 18:25 Have Your SayYou are in: Suffolk > Faith > Events > Millennium Tower Exhibition |
