Your favourite spiritual place

Bluebells at Covehithe
The hunt is on for the Nation's Favourite Spiritual Place.

It need not be
a mosque or church, it can easily be an area of countryside or somewhere that means something special to you.

BBC Radio 4 is looking for your nominations, but here are a few suggestions from people living in Suffolk.

Covehithe

"It has to be by the water, whether a stroll along the shingle at Old Felixstowe or a wander along the riverbank at Woodbridge, I find watching the water and the wildlife around very calming."
Steph Earthroll

"A walk along the cliffs at Bawdsey if it's a nice day. Covehithe beach if it's stormy....pub if it's dark and bed if it's late - or just the back garden to check the flowers and vegetables." Will Tillotson

River Gipping at Sproughton

"My two favourite places to chill out in Suffolk are in Stratford St Mary, by the river, or on a sunny day in the beer garden of one of the excellent pubs in the village, or on Lowestoft's South Beach. But only to the beach on cooler days when the beach isn't crowded and one can walk along the sand and think." Charles Collins

Somerleyton Church

"Coming from land-locked Leicestershire, Suffolk has hundreds of great places to go to get away from everything. There's a lay-by on the road out towards Shotley, Aldeburgh seafront....but best is Landguard Fort at Felixstowe. It's only a short drive, and after a stressful day at work it's great to sit, unwind and watch the rest of the rest of the world go by." Lis Henderson

"One of the places I love to go is Pin Mill. It's like stepping back in time and such a beautiful quiet place, and small. Also the drive by the side of the River Orwell and by the bridge is equally as lovely." Alex Pope

Southwold - sitting on the green with a pint of Adnams in one hand and an ice cream in the other! Pete Jennings

"I find a walk with my dog in the Suffolk countryside...maybe through Rendlesham Forest, along the Orwell River or beside the sea at Shingle Street....is a great way to unwind, and get life into proportion. To hear the birds and smell the forest or sea is a most calming influence and helps me feel in touch with myself and the earth we live on." Lesley Dolphin

"I like to go down to the Marina in Ipswich where you can hear the clinks and chimes of the boats as the wind passes over... and also to the beach at Old Felixstowe." Joel Mapp

"There's a short stretch of footpath known as The Larches which is between Loudham and Campsea Ashe. There are the most magnificent larch trees, with their droopy branches bowing down to the ground. Apart from the trees, there's loads of birds and rabbits. In fact its a bit like Watership Down if you sit still the rabbits come out of the burrows. The only traffic you'll hear is the occasional train on the Ipswich to Lowestoft line, and you hardly ever encounter any other walkers which makes it the perfect place to sit and ponder." Kate Hayward

"The most peaceful place for me is Minsmere on the Suffolk coast. The only reminder of the outside world is the sight of Sizewell nuclear power station in the distance. A stroll round what must be quietest place in the county is just what you need to get an idea of what life could be like in the ideal world!" Stephen Foster

Abbey ruins

"Much as I love the beauty and simplicity of an old English church and the grandeur of our Cathedrals, there is nowhere more spiritual for me than a clear dark Suffolk sky lit only by stars and the Milky Way. Gazing at the Universe is the surest way I know of clearing your head and getting life on Earth into perspective." Gerald Main

Dunwich Beach

"I love going to Aldeburgh. Walking slowly down the front and then walking back through the town window shopping with either a bag of chips or a scrummy ice-cream......But when I really feel I need to get away from it all I get lost in my thoughts and write things down while I look over the docks. I have a real need to be by water." Sophie Morford

Flatford
Willy Lott's Cottage, Flatford

"My place to go to get away from it all is the beach at Walberswick. I find the pebbled beach solitary, rugged and isolated. You feel surrounded by the elements and helps you forget everything." Alan Bramwell
