Stephen was offered a place in the Royal Ballet at the age of 17, during his time with them he danced the leading roles in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Romeo & Juliet amongst others.
He also played the role of famous ballet dancer Anton Dolin in a BBC Omnibus programme about his life, in the same year he was also nominated for an Olivier Award and a Society Of West End Theatre Award for Outstanding Performance for a Dancer.
In 1984 Stephen was took over the lead role of Mistopholes and Quaxo in the musical Cats, following that he joined the cast of The Rocky Horror Show as Rocky, and starred in The Hot Shoe Show with Wayne Sleep on BBC One, as well as taking the lead role in the movie of The Nutcracker with Joan Collins.
In 1986 Stephen joined The Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet as a principal dancer on a tour of Europe and the USA, after a year he returned to the Royal Ballet to tour Europe and Australia.
In 1988 Stephen began teaching at the famous Pineapple Dance Studios in London. The following year he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company where he starred in their record-breaking production of Clockwork Orange, as well as taking part in various dance videos and commercials.
In 1990 Stephen began guest teaching at The Royal Ballet School as well as The English National Ballet Company, The Rambert Dance Company, The Boston Ballet School, The Scottish Ballet Company, The Hong Kong Ballet Company and various schools throughout the Far East.
In 1994 he designed and built a ballet studio in Japan teaching students from the age of three upwards. More recently he has returned to work as a guest teacher at the English National Ballet Company.
