The respected and trusted face of sport on BBC Breakfast News, Chris Hollins is the on-the-ball name viewers turn to when wanting clarification on the latest Beckham rumour, an inside story from the England cricket camp or an exclusive interview with a Team GB Olympic winners. If there’s a sporting story breaking then Chris is the man in the know.
Sport is part of Chris’s DNA: His father, John Hollins MBE, played football for Chelsea, Arsenal, and England whilst his uncle David was a goalkeeper for Newcastle United and Wales.
After leaving school in 1989, Chris played football for Charlton, QPR and Aldershot Town, before attending the University of Durham and subsequently Oxford University, for whom he played first-class cricket.
Chris Hollins
Chris began his media career at Sky Sports in 1994 followed by spells at GMTV, Meridian and Five TV. Chris joined BBC News in 1999 and also reported for Grandstand and Football Focus.
He joined BBC Breakfast in October 2005 and is now their main sport presenter. He has reported on all of the biggest sporting events: Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, World Cups, Ashes, Masters, Olympics and many more.
Ola is (nearly!) 27 years old, and is 5'4". Her professional dance partner is her husband, James Jordan – they have been dancing together for 9 years and turned professional in 2003. Her speciality is Latin American.
Ola was born in Poland, in a small town called Legionowo (near Warsaw). She lived there until she came to England aged 17. Ola’s mother is called Janina and her father is called Gariusz. She has one older sister, Monika, who is a pharmacist.
She won the Open Polish Championship in 1999 at 17 years old, and then went to the World Championships where she was placed in the Top 12 in November 1999.
Ola split from her dance partner shortly after the World Championships, and was in the process of looking for a new partner when James Jordan phoned her and asked if he could come to Poland and try-out to be her partner. So, in March 2000, James arrived in Poland and they matched perfectly. In April 2000, Ola moved to England.
They started to compete together for a couple of years, and after getting married in October 2003, moved to Hong Kong. They first took part in Strictly Come Dancing in Series 4.
