Social networks are increasingly popular and encompass websites such as MySpace and Facebook. Social networking basically means having your own personal page on the Internet.
To become a member of an online social network you first need to sign up for your own page. Your email address and name is usually enough, you can offer more information if you want to but there is no obligation. You don't have to share anything with people you don't know - if you only want to share things with your family and friends then that's fine.
Once you have your profile page it's a simple process to click and add friends. You're then part of an online social network where you can share photos, check messages, chat to your friends and more.
Visit Strictly Come Dancing on Facebook or Twitter
This year we want to bring all the latest news and gossip to your favourite spaces around the web. We will be posting videos and news stories on the main BBC Strictly website (ie, here!) and on Facebook. We'll be blogging on all the need-to-know things that go on behind the scenes in TV Centre, and you'll be able to comment on all the latest issues.
The BBC Strictly Twitter account will focus on providing immediate, behind-the-scenes images, video and commentary - so make sure you're signed up to get all the latest info!
Once you have created your social networking accounts, make sure you're signed up to the Strictly Come Dancing Facebook and Twitter fan pages. It's a good idea to subscribe to our newsletter as well in order to know what events are happening.
You can also join in the discussions on the Strictly News Blog, located on this very webiste, where you can get the latest celebrity gossip, dancing dissection and insider exclusives.
Although anyone can read the latest entries on the Strictly website's News Blog, you have to have a BBC iD membership in order to post your comments. If you posted on our Messageboards last year, you will aleady have a BBC iD account.
If you don't already have a BBC iD account, it's really easy to set one up by visiting the BBC iD Registration Page. All you'll need are a current working email address and to think up of a password. Simple!
