Biography
Anton is a typical English gentleman with a great sense of humour.
His professional partner is fellow Strictly dancer, Erin Boag. They have been dancing together for 11 years and turned professional in 2002.
His speciality is Ballroom.
Strictly
Anton has been a part of Strictly Come Dancing since series one. His partners have included Patsy Palmer, Jan Ravens and Gillian Taylforth.
Last year Anton was partnered with former MP Ann Widdecombe; A popular couple, the duo made it all the way to the quarter-final, despite scoring consistently low marks throughout the series. The duo's high-point saw Ann fly in over the stage to the dance floor, earning her the nickname "Starship Widdecombe" by Bruno Tonioli.
Anton's best result was back in 2004 when he achieved third place alongside partner Opera singer Lesley Garrett.
Background
Anton grew up in Sevenoaks, Kent with his Spanish mother, Hungarian father, and his brother and sister. He started dancing at 14, studying Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet and modern theatre dance, as well as being a junior boxer and county footballer.
Anton had a lot of ground to make up though, as by 14 most people were already experienced competitors on the junior circuit. At 17, Anton specialised in Ballroom, favouring the Foxtrot – much like his idol Fred Astaire.
In 1997, Anton met Erin, and within a year the duo had captured the New Zealand Championship – a feat they repeated the following year.
He has also presented Step up to the Plate, and appeared as team captain on Hole in the Wall, both for BBC One. Anton has also written a book about Ballroom dancing entitled Anton’s Dance Classes.
Trivia
Anton loves golf and was thrilled to play a round with Bruce Forsyth.
He is also quite the charmer – Tess Daly said she would choose Anton over Antonio Banderas anytime, and Lesley Garrett CBE stated: "every woman should spend half an hour with Anton Du Beke!"
Anton likes the theatre, cinema, and eating out at posh restaurants. "Basically I like anything grand."
