Career

Alex first appeared on our screens as a contestant on the Sky One show Prickly Heat! hosted by Davina McCall.

After graduating from Aberystwyth University, Jones started her career by working as a TV Researcher, but it wasn't long before she was in front of the cameras presenting shows on the Welsh language television channel S4C. For more than a decade she hosted shows on the channel such as Tocyn, a travel series offering alternative holidays, Chwa, an extreme sports series and Salon, a style and fashion programme.

She also co-hosted with rugby legend Jonathan Davies during the 2010 Six Nations Championship, and was a regular presenter on Real Radio GMG, Wales' largest commercial station.

In July 2010, the BBC announced that Alex would become the new female co-host on The One Show, replacing Christine Bleakley. She has been co-presenting the flagship programme now for a year, first with Jason Manford and subsequently with Strictly's own finalist Matt Baker.

Alex also co-presented 2011's Let's Dance for Comic Relief with Steve Jones, replacing Claudia Winkleman, as well as being part of the BBC's Royal Wedding coverage, reporting live from Kate Middleton's hometown.

Background

Originally from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire in West Wales, Jones was educated at a Welsh-speaking school. She continued into further education by studying for a degree in Theatre, Film & TV studies at Aberystwyth University.

Alex has previously dated TV presenters Steve Jones and Matt Johnson. She and Matt Johnson split up just before she moved to London.

Although she has relocated to London for The One Show, Jones bought a place in her hometown in May this year.

Jones once told Redhanded Magazine her dream job would be "to share the This Morning sofa with Philip and Fern".
