Information
» This
wonderful building is Europe's first purpose built theatre-in-the-round, with
a seating capacity of 597. Producing ten major play-productions a year, and receiving
touring theatre and concert performances, the theatre is the region's arts jewel
in the crown, with a hugely loyal fan-base. Incidentally, with a good choice
of real ales and excellent bistro, it's worth going for the food & drink, even
if you don't go to the performances! There's an urban-wildlife garden too outside
the building. Former Theatre Director Peter Cheeseman was well-respected
internationally; he retired and was succeeded by Gwenda Hughes in 1998. The
New Vic has an award-winning Community Outreach initiative, the nationally respected,
New Vic Borderlines working with young people at risk. Also a community active
Education Department working in and around schools. New Vic Education also run
New Vic Youth Theatre for young people aged 7 - 18yrs. |
