–16th & 19th - 23rd | Taming
of the Shrew
By William Shakespeare. Katherina is the fiery and cantankerous elder daughter
of Baptista, who refuses to allow his younger daughter, Bianca, to marry until
a husband can be found for the elder. This seems entirely unlikely – until Petruchio
bursts on to the scene, seeking a wealthy wife. His progress in wooing and
taming Kate, together with the pursuit of Bianca by several disguised suitors,
produces a wonderful entertainment, with none of the darker tones so often found
in Shakespearian comedy. This production will be presented as a play within a
play, using Shakespeare’s rarely performed induction scenes with the character
Christopher Sly. | |

Players present The Man Who Came to Dinner - Sheridan Whiteside,
having dined at the home of the Stanley's, slips on their doorstep, breaking his
hip. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follow. The Stanley living room is
monopolized by the irascible invalid; ex-convicts are invited to meals; and transatlantic
calls bring a hefty phone bill. Penguins in the library, an octopus in the cellar,
a sarcophagus and a National radio broadcast in the living room are all in this
benchmark of American comedy theatre.

Youth Theatre presents …. Billy! the musical is based on “Billy
Liar” the book by Dick Clements and Ian La Frenais, and play and film by Keith
Waterhouse and Willis Hall. Billy Fisher is an undertaker’s clerk living with
his mother, father and grandmother in Stradhoughton. Although he allows himself
to believe he lives in Ambrosia, a fictitious state where he resides as President,
he also fantasises about being a script writer, film star as well as anything
else important and alluring. Trouble is nobody believes him, especially his two
girlfriends, Barbara and Rita - both of whom he has promised marriage and an engagement
ring. He desperately tries to worm his way out of situations so he can run away
with Liz, to whom he knows his future really belongs. This comedy became a musical
in the 70’s starring Michael Crawford as Billy, with music by the great John Barry. The
music director for Lookout is William Moss with starry eyed Mike McCarthy as Billy
