MP calls for jail suicide inquiry Stoke-on-Trent South MP George Stevenson is calling for an investigation into the "dismal" suicide record at Shrewsbury Prison in the wake of the death of Mark Keeling from Newstead. See more from BBC News

New chemical to tackle superbug AddMaster, a Staffordshire-based company has developed a pellet which it claims repels hospital superbugs such as MRSA. See more from BBC News

Speed camera vandals plead guilty Roy Robotham and Benjamin Taylor, who vandalised speed cameras after one of them was fined for speeding, have been given 200 hours community service. They had daubed black and white paint on 22 camera lenses along a stretch of the A51 in Staffordshire earlier this year. See more from BBC News

Remand prisoner's hanging death A 31-year-old remand prisoner, Mark David Keeling from Stoke-on-Trent, dies after being found hanged in jail.

Club's golden girl gets red card
Stoke City's "Golden Goal Girl", Charlotte Marsh from Longton, is dropped after some supporters complain that using her is sexist. Now supporters will be given a red or white card at the next home game and be asked to hold them up just before kick-off. See more from BBC News

Vet's drugs stolen from surgery Drugs used to sedate animals and put them to sleep, have been stolen from Marsh Avenue vets surgery in Wolstanton over the Bank Holiday break.

Superstar revelations Robbie Williams' new autobiography is on sale from today, three years after his first one was published. The revelations in "Feel" are said to include details of his childhood sweetheart as a teenager in Stoke-on-Trent.

Residents oppose town hall plans More than 1,000 people have signed a petition opposing proposals to sell off Uttoxeter town hall.

Magazine in line for national award A Staffordshire magazine, based in a garden shed, is in line to win a national award. Local Life in the Staffordshire Moorlands has made it to the final the Rural Newspaper of the Year contest run by the National Farmers Union. It is up against two big newspapers from the south of England. David Cliffe runs the paper from his shed in Leek, his reporter works in her dining room and his advertising rep works from his kitchen.

Tuesday 31st August
Police station coverage defended Staffordshire Police are defending a decision not to staff the front desk of a new £1m station around the clock. Chasetown Police Station, which serves 32,000 people in the Burntwood area of the county, opened in May. See more from BBC News

One-stop health centre planned
Plans for a new community health centre in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent will include four GP surgeries under one roof.

Celebrity visit One of Britain's best-known acting couples made a guest appearance at the weekend's Inland Waterways Festival in Burton. Actors Prunella Scales and Timothy West have had their own narrowboat for more than 20 years, and yesterday were awarded the title of Waterways Personalities of the Year.

Main rail line shut for nine days Passengers face coach travel on the West Coast main line after it closes for nine days of renovation. See more from BBC News

Plans to fight racism Parent support groups could be set up at schools across Stoke-on-Trent to help ease racial tension between pupils. Volunteers at Longton High say they're already having some success in tackling problems there.The Longton High Parent group was formed last year by 11 parents and a representative from the Racial Equality Council following problems bewteen white and Asian pupils. At one point, a quarter of them were kept at home after allegations of racial attacks and the police were brought in. The support group organises events to try to get the children to be more tolerant of each other and the volunteers are going to have mediation training to help ease any further tensions. They say they now plan to visit other schools, to help them form their own groups, as they believe racial tension between pupils is a city-wide problem.

Christian help Ten volunteers from a church in Stafford are going to Bulgaria to help build the country's first hospice. The group from the Church Lane Evangelical Church will help decorate the centre for the terminally ill. They'll be there for nearly two weeks.

Sunday 29th August
MP campaigns against new toll road An MP has joined a campaign against proposals for a new M6 Toll road. Stafford's Labour MP David Kidney has been holding meetings about the proposal to build a new M6 expressway from Cannock to Knutsford. He says he has spoken to around 1,000 people so far. Mr Kidney and Friends of the Earth are both encouraging people to object to the plan. He says he hopes to get measurements of current air and noise pollution and wants the borough and county councils to support residents who would be affected by the motorway.

Nina BaskeyfieldNina is Staffordshire's Honey Staffordshire's Nina Baskeyfield has won through to the final of FHM Magazine's annnual High Street Honey competition. After being nominated by her best friend, she got picked to be in the Top 100 from over ten thousand entrants.
Nina will be undertaking promotional work at local night clubs, local pubs and businesses, and even appearances at half time at local football matches to boost her support.
To vote for Nina, supporters have to e-mail honeysvote@fhm.com with the message 'Nina 17'. Closing date is 1st September.

Saturday 28th August

Post Office closes two branches The Post Office has confirmed it is to close two post offices in north Staffordshire. Knutton will lose its high street branch and the Hartshill post office is also to shut, despite opposition from the pressure group Postwatch Midlands. See more from BBC News
